HIV/AIDS — have we become complacent?

Have we become complacent when it comes to HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention? Good question to ask ourselves. but, first look at some of the recent facts and trends:

1. CDC has recently confirmed an increase in HIV infection rates in the category of MSM (men who have sex with men)
2. The rise and prevalence (and “coolness” attitude) of crystal-meth (Tina, PNP) in gay social circles  Some gay men party hardy with “Tina”, Viagra, poppers and unprotected sex –a fatal  mix
3. the availability of  advance protease inhibitors to keep the HIV virus in check –is it really manageable like diabetes?
4. Society and gay community attitudes and piorities
5. An increase in youth HIV infection rates in under 20 year olds

Now ask yourself and ponder the above question or better yet consider this: has the forefront of HIV/AIDS taken the back burner to concerns in the gay community and society at large? Has HIV/AIDS become a silent disease?

I personally have lost too many people/my community that  I loved in the period of the 80’s and 90’s to forget them now. We paid for life giving lessons with our lives. I intend to turn my grief from my extreme losses into wisdom. How are our losses and lessons being communicated to our youth so that they also will never forget and make  choices that best serve them and their bright futures?
